MAPPING - Help needed!

    Hey guys,

    I had the great idea to remake dust2 for sof2. Now this is a major project as dust is fairly big, but i think it's worth it and it would be awesome to have it on this old game.

    Now i've been playing with the models a little and converted the needed models of dust2 to obj files.
    Now i need to get these models into .ase files, but as it simply to much work to do this on my own i'm asking help.

    Difficulty Level: Easy
    Required Products: 3D Modelling Program ( I use 3ds Max, Blender, maya etc.. allowed)
    Amount of models to compile: approximately 160 models (Not all models may be used, depending on the power of the game and the limitations of gtk).

    What do you need to do?
    Open the .obj model, apply the corresponding Texture to it, and export it as .ase file.
    Put the texture in the textures/cs_dust2 folder.

    Open the .ase with a texteditor (e.g notepad++, Atom ... ), and change the texture path lines.
    Changing the following lines:
    Code:
    *MATERIAL_NAME "Material18"
    *MATERIAL_NAME "Material18"
    *BITMAP "dust_aid_crate_tethers.jpg"
    
    To:
    Code:
    *MATERIAL_NAME "textures/csgo/dust_aid_pallet"
    *MATERIAL_NAME "textures/csgo/dust_aid_pallet"
    *BITMAP "..\textures\csgo\dust_aid_pallet.jpg"
    Then save the .ase file and test if you are able to import it with textures into gtk radiant.

    How to import a model into GTK Radiant?
    Right mouse Click on the grid, a menu will open.
    Now open `Misc` and hit `misc_model`.
    A file browser will open, change the filetype from md3 models <*.md3> to Autodesk 3DSMAX ASCII <*.ase> and select the .ase model.

    Be sure that you have added the textures into the sof2 folder where you gtk radiant is connected to.

    If you did it successfully, then it should look like this in gtk radiant.

    Great fucking idea! If you could help describing your process to aspiring people who want to do that it would be awesome! Like maybe some step by step with tutorials :)

    Above says exactly what you are doing, I'm currently reinstalling 3ds max, as i got a hold on the student edition, but i'll make a show video on what they'll be basically doing.

    To more people the faster it goes, and the less work it will be per person.

    Well I doubt he doesn't know but... wouldn't it be easier for you to edit an existing map into your version of dust? I mean the map exists and if you wanna change anything about it common sense tells me it'd be easier to edit an existing map than creating a new one.

    The current dust map is not anywhere near the cs dust, and it sux balls.

    Decompiling a bsp will basically fuck up the map, and the measurements used in that map aren't correct at all, as it feels like i'm in a rabbit hole or something, where the walls are 1mm next to me.

    If u are on cs maps, i have a request for a 1v1 map.

    This map could be a great addition for the next MK tournament, as most of current maps are getting pretty boring.

    Map is called awp_india and it's a pretty straight forward map. Just the way I like as you may know by now.

    This doesn't really have anything to do with your topic, but idc. :D

    Well, it's based on the dust map, meaning if people help me to properly convert these models, it would be hell of a lot easier, to make such maps.
    on Cs i regularly join in some 1v1 servers, and there is a dust like map (very small) which i really like, and would love to recreate on sof2 as it would be awesome to play.
    But i'll need help from people willing to put some time and quality to convert these models with me, else it'll take `no joke` years untill i'm done with just making the models compatible for sof2.

    Ofcourse once they are all finished, i'll make them open for everyone to download and use, and add a nice little tutorial to how to import them.
    I will make a little video about what you have to do, so people get a look what they have to do. ( Nothing to difficult, as its basically assigning a texture to it, then exporting it as a .ase en then opening it with text editor to make relative path's )

    Well unity is development software, and you will need modelling software.
    Ill get back to you layer on ur question, need to check it.

    Great, What version of 3ds max are you using? I got a hold on the student license for 2017 edition, but gtk doesn't seem to happy about it, and gives me brown models in gtk back.

    I used to work with 3ds max as it was easy to use, but thought 2017 would be better, seems they made it more difficult to use, and added useless features to it. (Why the fuck would you use ifl extension only saying the image name you selected, while previous versions just said the jpg file).

    Anyhow i'll get back with some videos hopefully later today.

    haha, i'll share the 2010 version with the people that want to help.

    I'm currently installing it, and will make the video, upload it and you can say if you want to help. (As it ain't to most exciting thing to do).

    This is what you will be doing.
    Import -> apply Textures -> Export -> Modify Absolute paths to relative paths -> Test

    Note: I just noticed after uploading that my mouse wasn't displayed, i'll upload a better one later with mouse, but the above one should also say most.
